It loosens and clears wax, dirt and odour, then evaporates and leaves the ear dry and open rather than warm and damp. Same job as the Purple, same formulation, same directions.
Why colour free — The Purple version gets its colour from Gentian Violet. That's useful, because you can see where it's been — and a nuisance, because it can stain. This one leaves nothing behind. It exists for pale and white coats, show trims, and anyone who would rather not find it on the furnishings afterwards. If your dog is a Bichon, a Westie, a Maltese, a samoyed, or anything heading into a ring, this is the bottle to buy.
It smells strong, and that's the point — Alcohol-based, and people compare it to methylated spirits. That's the mechanism, not a fault: the alcohol carries the solution down the canal and then evaporates, which is what leaves the ear dry instead of wet. It fades within a minute or two.
Which size — Most people start with the 150ml. The 50ml is for the car, or a first try. The 500ml is the groomer's bottle, and works out at roughly a third of the price per ml of the 50ml. No expiry date on any size, so a bottle keeps between flare-ups rather than going off in the cupboard.

- Stand the bottle in a cup of warm water for 5 minutes.
- Shake vigorously for 2 minutes before every application.
- Remove the nozzle cap, insert the nozzle in the ear and squeeze until the ear canal is flooded with the solution.
- Gently massage around the ear for 30 to 50 seconds, then let your pet shake its head.
How often: initially twice a day for up to 2 weeks, depending on the severity. Then once a day for the next one to two weeks. For best results, once a month thereafter.
Warming and shaking are not optional. They are what lets the solution run down the canal rather than sit at the top of it.

Read the instruction leaflet before use. For external use in the ear only. Do not use on an ear that is bleeding or where the eardrum may be perforated. If your pet is in pain, shaking their head persistently, or you can see discharge or swelling, speak to your vet first.
Staining: the purple version may stain — please use it in appropriate surroundings. The Colour Free version exists precisely to avoid this.
